The Battle of the Beaufort took place during the First Lebanon War (Peace For Galilee), in June 6-7 1982, during which troops from an engineer unit and the Golani Reconnaissance Unit captured the crusaders' fort from the PLO. For their part in the battle, Major Giora (Guni) Harnick was cited for bravery by the division commander, and lieutenant Mordechai (Moti) Goldman, his deputy, was decorated with a Medal of Honor.
