The Map collection

The map collection at the IDFA includes 46,000 items, including topographic maps, aerial photographs, charts, IDF code maps, battle charts, etc.

Most maps were transferred to the archive from various IDF units, such as the Military Mapping Unit, the History department, and from private people who transferred maps in their possession, thus enriching the collection.

We own maps and aerial photographs from the beginning of the Jewish settlement in Israel until the present.

The maps are documenting the IDF operational activities in its various wars and operation, in current security, etc.

The collection is used, inter alia, for a historic-geographic documentation of Eretz-Israel, for operational needs, mine evacuation and for researchers searching for soldiers missing in action.

You may scrutinize the maps open to the public, and receive a scanned copy on a CD for a fee.
