The first disaster at Tyre happened on November 11, 1982, at around 7 a.m., following the First Lebanon War. The Military Government Headquarters in the city collapsed on the many people inside. A commission of inquiry, established by the IDF found out that the disaster was due to a gas leak, causing an explosion and the collapse of the building. 76 Israelis and 14 Lebanese detainees were killed in the disaster.
