The Commander's Character

During the years, Ben Gurion addressed young commanders and soldiers in various occasions, such as graduation ceremonies and other events in the IDF, in an effort to mold their character.

"Scorn to details may undermine our army's might."

On November 4, 1948, at a graduation ceremony of a platoon commander course, Ben Gurion, Minister of Defense, presented his doctrine according to which:

"Our secret weapon is Man's spirit."

He repeated the fact that the war was forced on us. However, the future of the Jewish people will not be established on the sword, but on our creativity and labor.

Alongside these lofty ideas, Ben Gurion preached young commanders on the importance of discipline, proper management, savings, and avoiding waste, because:

"Scorn to details may undermine our army's might."
