"The War of Attrition"
On 8 March, 1969, Gamal Abdel Nasser, President of Egypt, annulled the 1967 ceasefire with Israel, thus launching the War of Attrition, fought mainly along the ceasefire lines with Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, as well as against terrorist acts. On August 7, 1970 a ceasefire was declared in the Suez Canal front, after 17 months of warfare. On September 1970, Following King Hussein of Jordan's assault on the PLO and Fatah forces in the kingdom, the war of attrition, and pursuing of terrorists ended on the Eastern front. 1,362 soldiers fell in the war, and 3,700 were injured.
