The "Yom Kippur War"
The "Yom Kippur War" October 6 – October 22, 1973. The Egyptian and Syrian armies launched a surprise attack on Israel. The IDF conducted holding-defense battles before launching a counter attack. The war ended with a ceasefire forced on all sides by the Security Council of the United Nations. By the end of the war IDF forces were 35 Kilometers from Damascus, and 101 Kilometers from Cairo. A ceasefire agreement was signed with Egypt on November 11, 1973. A disengagement agreement was signed with Syria on May 31, 1974. 2,297 soldiers fell in the war, 7,250 were injured.
