"The First Intifada"
On December 9, 1987, a popular uprising of the Palestinians broke out in the Gaza Strip and spread to the West Bank. The Intifada broke out spontaneously in the Gaza Strip, after the death of four Palestinians in a traffic accident. However, in the following days Palestinian organizational infrastructures were established in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which directed the uprising. The signing of the Mutual Recognition Memo between Israel and the PLO on September 13, 1993 put an end to the First Intifada.
